So, I’m trying to upload pictures for you, but, for some reason, WordPress isn’t cooperating tonight. So, I can’t upload everything I wanted to show you. But, here’s a bit of the living room.
The dining room (also used as the school room) is off to the left. There are 3 bedrooms up the stairs, and a hall bath. The master bedroom is smallish and painted a nice, delicate shade of pink, but it does have it’s own bathroom, which is nice. Here’s a shot of that:
Yep. That’s a hot pink toilet seat. Even the guy doing the inspection got the giggles when he saw it. RegularDad promised me that the first thing we’re going to do to this house once we close is install a dishwasher. But that was before we saw this toilet seat cover.
How much do you want to bet that installing the dishwasher is the second thing we do?
Anyway. Here’s a shot of the finished attic that makes for a fourth bedroom.
Ideally this would be a better size for a master bedroom, but since there’s no adjoining bathroom, it’s going to be my study. Oh, we’ll put the futon up here too, for when Grandma comes to visit, but that’ll only be a couple times a year. For the rest of the time, this will be My Private Space. This is a good thing to have if you’re a homeschoolin’ mama like me. This, along with the large yard, and various other little details I can’t show you because WordPress is having some sort of cyber-PMS moment, makes that kitchen and all the upgrading required worth every penny.
I’ll try uploading some more shots of the outside tomorrow, once WordPress is finished having its little tantrum or whatever it is.

It isn’t weird that I’ve fallen completely in love with your attic, is it?
Nope. I’m sort of in love with it myself.
that pink toilet seat actually made me cry a little, but in a good way.
Growing up we always had Thanksgiving at my Grandma and Grandpa’s. There was always more than 25 people and it was always tons of fun. We’d get there about 10am and never left before 8 (and always with a few containers of my grandpa’s frozen stuffing).
What does this have to do with a pink toilet seat? One year (probably 25 years ago), grandma “redid” the bathroom. Just a little paint and some lavender accessories, but she really loved it. So Grandpa found a lavender toilet seat at the store one day, bought it and put it in. I always thought it was the coolest thing (come on, we only had a boring white toilet!) but it was always a laughed at and teased about thing (in a fun family sort of way).
About ten years ago, my grandparents sold the house and moved into a condo. Even though my grandpa and always said that he hated the “purple seat,” he had my uncle replace it with a new seat and brought the purple one to the condo.
My grandpa died about 7 years ago now and grandma is in an assisted living apartment. My mom called a couple of months ago and said that the condo finally sold. I never even thought to ask about the purple seat. It probably got left there for the new owners to replace first off
I wish I had thought about it sooner, it would have made quite the conversation piece hanging on the wall.
Thanks for the the happy Thanksgiving memories!
“it’s going to be my study”
Best words in the whole post. Congratulations! A place to laugh with Augustin in private…..
Wow. That is a beautiful study. Suddenly. I love that house. I once sublet an apartment in Boston that the entire, small bathroom was that color pink. with pigs. every morning. and night. for a whole summer.
Weaver…wow…what a story. I’m sitting here trying to find a polite way to say: “hey, if you want that old pink toilet seat, you’re welcome to it.” But so far, it just keeps coming out wrong.
Is there ever really a polite way to offer a used toilet seat to someone you only know online?
I’ll have to spend some time pondering that in my new study.
Love that study. What view do you get from the windows? It’d be great if they overlooked the big back yard. Imagine windows open, keyboard clicking, summer breezes carrying little girl voices. Lovely.
Gee. I don’t pop by for a few days and theres a whole new house going on. Now seriously, I think the kitchen tiles need fixing before the toilet seat. After all, you do have to look at them a lot more now don’t you? No offense, but yuk.
The attic is just perfect. I would have bought the house just for that floor. Mmmmmm
May I say that I like those kitchen cabinets? I do. I even like the hardware on them. Yes, this is partly due to nostalgia. But those cabinets look like they are made from actual wood, as opposed to particle board. I like them, and I don’t care what any of you say. I wouldn’t even paint them.
In Texas I had similar cabinets. I was going to yank them all down -so dark and heavey. But first I washed them with actual Spic and Span and a scrubby. They came up two lovely shades lighter and stayed that way.
oh, thank you for the offer! That is so sweet of you, no matter how demented it may sound
you’ve made me smile today, thank you! I’ve been trying not to call my mom for two days now and ask if someone took the seat cause I just don’t want to know that its in the landfill with a shiny new seat in its place
I’d rather pretend like its still there, in my grandpa’s bathroom (cause did I mention that when they moved, they had separate bedrooms and bathrooms and the purple seat went to my grandpa’s bathroom, not grandma’s? makes it even funnier, huh?)
Anyway, thank you again for the toilet seat offer, but I think I’ll just try to be happy with my Grandma’s recipe for buckeyes this Thanksgiving
and you enjoy the new study!!!
