About RegularMom
Doing my part to show the world that the home- schooling community is more than just a bunch of crazy fundamentalists. There's plain old regular crazy people who homeschool, too. Like me.

This means that all the stuff written on this blog is, like, MY stuff. As in: Not YOUR stuff. Don't take my stuff without asking, okay? It's rude.

aaahhhh, we recently had this rite, too. Congrats to the new rider!
That is one picture that really does say it all! How’s your back? Did you do the run behind while holding all their weight on your four fingers thing?
Well, actually, we didn’t have to do any of that. We just took the training wheels off and set her up on our really long driveway. It has just the right amount of slant to let her coast slowly down to the end near the barn and then start pedalling. She’s getting really good at turns too. She set up a bit of an obstacle course for herself with all the other bikes and trikes. If she gets out of control she steers onto the grass and stops herself. By mid-afternoon, she was already able to get herself going uphill. Pretty cool.
PS: Weaver, congrats to your new rider too.
Very Cool!
Hey Katherine,
Tell Riley that she helped. I told my dd6 about the whole take-the-pedals-off-and-coast thing, and she was all for it. Except in the end, we just left the pedals on.
I guess I have to get on the take off the training wheels band wagon. I’m amazed really at how little Pete actually likes riding bikes. I lived on mine as a kid.
I biked a lot as a young kid, and then not so much as a preteen and teen.
My kids didn’t get into bike riding much until we moved to this little house in the country with a nice long driveway. They suddenly got lots more practice time in.
