Happy Earth Day.

Well, it’s Earth Day, so here…have a picture of a nest:

nest-sq.jpg

Of course, according to the date of this post, it’s technically the day after Earth Day, but I can assure you that where I am sitting in relation to the international date line (or whatever), it’s still Earth Day. Or if you want to be really picky about it, Earth Night.

I would have posted this earlier so as to ensure that this picture of a nest I found in a thorn bush in our yard would have appeared here in my blog directly on Earth Day, but I have been very, very busy doing lots and lots of dishes. I am still not done with the dishes, by the way, but I have run out of room in the dish drainer and on the counter covered with dish towels, so I decided to take a break from doing all the dishes and rush over to the computer to post a picture of this nest in honor of Earth Day.

So, Happy Earth Day — a little late — to all of you, and I hope you enjoyed the completely and totally appropriate picture of the nest.

So, like, if I were to post later in the week about something not very eco-friendly that I’ve got in my house right now, you’d think to yourself…yeah, but she posted that picture of a nest in honor of Earth Day, so it’s okay.

Really, it’s okay.

PS: I’m not turning off the TV this week either. So, nyah.

I did nothing for earth day, BUT dh has agreed to do the ‘turn off the TV week’. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to it. I feel a little sneaky because 3 days of it will be during our vacation—-my dh and a tv with remote control in a small hotel room is almost more than I can bear. A pair of 7 year olds? No problem. But dh mindlessly flipping channels in a room where I have no where to run—let me tell ya….it stresses me JUST a tad.

That’s where ear-buds come in. I don’t mind watching TV in the evenings, but my husband tends to flick through the channels at a high speed which I find difficult to listen to or watch. Once he starts that, I pull out a book or my IPod.

If they’re gonna push a no-TV week, they ought to make it really hard and include the INTERNET! That’d be something.

Oh, I know. I agree. Ds is on line right now. But he has finished an hour of math and an hour of spelling.

Even if I can’t hear dh flipping channels, I find the visual just more than I can take. It puts me in a trance. Or when he gets on the phone and holds the remote mindlessly flipping with it on mute while he chats to his friend or some such. I take it out of his hand at those tiems.

We do ok without tv during the day. But it comes on in the evenings around 6:30 because I like to watch Househunters while I cook. Then dh comes in and takes over the remote.

I mostly hate tv. My mom took it out of our house for 5 years when I was a kid. We didn’t miss it one bit.

So how are you? Are you about to wrap it up for the year–schoolwise?

Yeah, I’d take it from him too, if he did that. For me, it’s not so much that my husband flicks through the channels, it’s more that he goes so fast and before I can even decide if I want to watch something he’s moved on. Argh.

TV doesn’t bug me so much. But reality shows really drive me nuts. If I want to watch vapid people treat each other badly, I’ll just have a barbeque and invite the extended family, or maybe I’ll just pop in to my high school reunion. (ha ha)

Anyway…we’re good. Still trying to sell our house out west and living in this little country rental, but we’re good. We school year-round, so I’m not in ‘wrap it up for the summer’ mode, but we’ve just had a little more time off than I’d have liked for April because of the well pump breaking, and then we all came down with colds.

But, that’s the cool thing about schooling year round, I guess. You’re never really behind. :)

    How about you guys?
